The speaker, Ms Ilyana Akbar, is a former Research Psychologist from Singapore General Hospital. She has experience working with persons with dementia and with their caregivers.

Dementia Awareness Week 2007

The Singapore Film Society in conjunction with the Japanese Film Festival 2007 presents ‘Oriume’ - A poignant tale of a person with Alzheimer’s disease and her relationship with her daughter-in-law, who becomes her caregiver. There was a post-film discussion with the audience and representatives from the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.
 

Dementia Awareness Week 2007
"Dementia Awareness Exhibition"

The Memory and Cognitive Disorders Service (Department of Geriatric Medicine) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, in conjunction with World Alzheimer's Day, had an event to promote dementia awareness. This year's event focussed on the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of patients and families with dementia as well as poster exhibitions, booths put up by the various health care professionals, (i.e. Geriatricians, Nurse Clinicians, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Medical Social Workers). Representatives from the Alzheimer's Disease Association and O’Joy Counselling service were also present. There were also lucky dips as well as cognitive games.

WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY 100TH YEAR SPECIAL

'LIVING WITH DEMENTIA'
A National Photography Competition
Closing Date: 31 July 2006

Jointly organized by Alzheimer's Disease Association and Stanley Lim Colour Centre.
Supported by Eisai Asia Regional Services Pte Ltd and National Council of Social Service (Specialised Caregiver Support Service)

Objective: To present a more positive, human image of dementia
Photographs taken should reflect the reality of living with dementia, respecting the dignity of people with dementia and focusing on the person behind the disease instead of the illness itself. The theme "Living with Dementia" will otherwise be left open to interpretation.

Categories:
(i) Student (secondary schools and tertiary institutions)
(ii) Open (public with no age limit)

Each individual can submit a maximum number of 3 photographs in 6R prints or digital (resolution to be at least 2000 x 1500 pixels), together with the official entry form below. Please read terms and conditions before submitting your entries.

Prizes for each category:

  • 1st Prize: $300 cash and $300 photography course voucher at Stanley Lim Colour Centre
  • 2nd Prize: $200 cash and $200 photography course voucher at Stanley Lim Colour Centre
  • 3rd Prize: $150 cash and $150 photography course voucher at Stanley Lim Colour Centre
  • 5 Consolation Prizes: $100 cash and $100 photography course voucher at Stanley Lim Colour Centre

The 3 best winning entries will stand a chance to compete at the International Photography Competition "Living with Dementia" organized by Alzheimer's Disease International.
